46 Mommas – Shave for the Brave! ~ September 21, 2011 ~ Union Station, Washington, DC
There is a haunting statistic out there that every weekday 46 children are diagnosed with cancer. In a time where I think just about all of us have been affected in some way by cancer’s reach, the search for a cure becomes increasingly important. The 46 Mommas are an awesome group of women who are working to bring more attention to the struggle of children with cancer. They are 46 brave women that represent amazingly brave kids who have beat, are fighting or have lost to cancer. And so on this day, these mothers came out to say, if my little one can battle this disease, than the least I can do is shave my head in his/her honor. I’ve lost family to cancer, but I cannot imagine having a child that has to battle it. In the middle of Union Station, people gathered to show support for the kids, the mothers and the fight. It was quite an amazing and emotional thing to witness. I felt honored to be there to see it.
There were fabulous make-up artists on hand to pamper the ladies after the big shave…
And even some of the volunteers decided to sit in the chairs and get their heads shaved for the cause!
